Breakfast Discussion Panel: “Consumer Products: Are we getting the safety we expect?”

With the publication of the new Package on Market Surveillance, the Independent Testing, Inspection, Certification (TIC) federations, under the patronage of MEP Christel SCHALDEMOSE, organised a Discussion Panel which took place at the European Parliament, on 24 January 2018, under the title:  "Consumer Products: Are we getting the safety we expect? How to address the widening gap between legal requirements and the reality of the market place."

The key note speech was given by Joaquim NUNES DE ALMEIDA, European Commission DG GROW Director of Dir B on Single Market Policy. The presentation was followed by a discussion panel facilitated by Hanane TAIDI, IFIA Director General where the Consumers’ view was represented by Monique GOYENS, Director General of BEUC.

The main topics on the agenda were market surveillance, the non-compliance of products in Europe and how to address the widening gap between legal requirements and the reality of the market placeIn relation to these topics, representatives from the European institutions, consumers organisation, industry and accreditation body discussed, amongst others, the main issues related to the new Package on Market Surveillance.
